The Cytodiagnosis Technical Classroom I is a work space designed to train future technicians in pathological anatomy and cytodiagnosis through practical activities in an environment similar to that found in a hospital pathological anatomy lab. It enables students to carry out a range of activities from basic biomedical laboratory techniques to typical molecular biology techniques.
In the Cytodiagnosis Technical Classroom I, students acquire essential professional skills related to:
- Equipment and working standards in a biomedical laboratory
- Preparing reagents and dissolutions
- Measurement techniques
- Acid/base valuations
- Instruments and their use: pipettes, micropipettes, volumetric instruments, weighing instruments, etc.
- Molecular biology techniques: electrophoresis, PCR
- Optical microscope: handling, visualisation and maintenance
- Microscopy techniques: staining and image interpretation
- Microbiology: stains, cultures and antibiogram
- Separation technique
- Cell cultures
- Immunological techniques: ELISA test, blood group determination, etc.
- Spectrophotometric techniques
At present, this lab is used to train students studying Advanced Vocational Training in Anatomical Pathology and Cytodiagnosis in years one and two.
Available resources:
- General area: fireproof cabinets for reagents, specific instrument cabinets, scales, vortex, microcentrifuge
- Sterilisation and conservation area: water purifier, autoclave, refrigerators and freezers
- Cell culture area: incubators, hotplates
- Microscopy area: 20 microscopes, Leica, one with adapted camera, staining cells
- Molecular technique area: micropipettes, thermal cycler (PCR), electrophoresis system, spectrophotometer
