Universidad Europea has taken a new step towards its establishment in Andalusia just one month after the final approval of the project in the Andalusian parliament and the start of the construction of the campus in Malaga. On Wednesday, the institution announced the name of the new rector, Daniel Hormigo.
Daniel Hormigo has more than 14 years of experience at Universidad Europea, where he has served as dean of the Faculty of Biomedical and Health Sciences in Madrid since 2019. During this time, he has been a key player in shaping the academic model that distinguishes the institution.
Upon confirmation of his appointment, Hormigo said that he assumes this new responsibility ‘with pride and enthusiasm, and with the firm commitment that Universidad Europea de Andalucía will soon become a benchmark for Higher Education in this community’.
Long academic career
With a degree in Biology with a specialisation in Biotechnology and Health Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he also obtained a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the new Rector of Universidad Europea de Andalucía stands out for his long academic career in which he has played a decisive role in the success and expansion of the academic model of Universidad Europea in the field of Health Sciences, becoming an internal and external reference.
‘I will work to transfer to Andalusia the academic rigour and research experience of Universidad Europea, accredited in its more than 30 years of existence, and to improve, if possible, the model with human capital in the region’, added Daniel Hormigo.

When the building works are completed, the Rector and his team will take up permanent residence at the new campus of Universidad Europea de Andalucía. The campus, whose design has been carried out by the prestigious Seguí studio, will be located in the area of El Romeral where it will have more than 27,000m2 and will be the second largest of the institution,
It will also have classrooms and laboratories equipped with the latest technology, where undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees will be taught, complementing the current offer of the Andalusian university system in the areas of Health Sciences and Sport, Social Sciences and STEAM.
