    The project

    The I3-INSHAPE project aims to enhance the European digital economy by evolving the ClusSport Partnership (recognized by the EU in the smart specialization area – S3– of sports and vitality) into a European competence center for SME initiatives in sports and vitality. This will be achieved through the creation of the I3-INSHAPE Network of Innovation and Investment Hubs, where we will expedite interregional innovation investments related to sports and vitality, bringing them to market.

    Project Summary

    The I3-INSHAPE project aims to support SME-led innovations during the commercialization and scale-up stages, capturing opportunities in the rapidly expanding global market. This initiative addresses the issue of increasingly sedentary lifestyles, a key factor in the rising incidence of chronic and endemic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and cancer.

    The project adopts a demand-driven approach, assisting SMEs in tackling challenges related to data-driven growth, scaling up innovations, and entering the market by:

    1. Establishing interregional connections to build value chains and expand market reach.
    2. Digitalizing services and products to enhance data accessibility.
    3. Providing comprehensive business and innovation support, including user-driven innovation, scaling, commercialization, and financing access.

    I3-INSHAPE will develop a portfolio of interregional investment (I3) cases, starting with 6 pre-selected FLAGSHIP SME I3 cases and an additional 30+ SME I3 Cases chosen through a series of bottom-up OPEN CALLS. These 30+ SME I3 Cases will receive extra funding to:

    • Address specific needs and requests from Flagship SMEs.
    • Create a second stream of additional I3 cases, fostering interregional value chains around the Flagship and Second Stream I3 cases.

    Ultimately, the project will transform the I3-INSHAPE Innovation & Investment Hubs into a self-sustaining, demand-driven ecosystem that continues beyond the project's duration.

    Project Objectives

    • Objective 1:
      Invest in 6 flagship SMEs that are part of the partnership, addressing their specific needs and supporting their progress towards market readiness.
    • Objective 2:
      Identify and develop up to 35 additional interregional investment cases during the project to either support existing flagship investments (WP2) or initiate new projects (WP3).
    • Objective 3:
      Enhance data and digital infrastructure to:
    1. Facilitate interregional innovation processes.
    2. Provide comprehensive support to SMEs within the interregional innovation ecosystem (WP4).
    • Objective 4:
      Further develop and strengthen the interregional innovation ecosystem in sports and technology within this partnership (WP5). This will pave the way for a sustainable, self-sustaining European Digital Innovation Hub in the fields of sports and vitality, ultimately having a positive impact on societal health and well-being.
