Study plan
The online Master in Sports Physiotherapy Comprises 6 modules. At the end of the programme, the student will receive the Private Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Physiotherapy Online, granted by Universidad Europea de Madrid.
Study plan structure
- Module 1. The Athlete's Physiological Environment: Training (10 ECTS)
The athlete’s physiological environment: training is the first module of the program, with a value of 4 ECTS. This module begins the training process of the university master's degree in sports physiotherapy in an inclusive and global way in the sports field, that is, from the perspective of the prevalence of health in each sports population, of the most common sports injuries in each sport, as well as, from the perspective of training, its physiological bases, its planning, its specificity in each of the areas that are required in sport: resistance, strength, flexibility and speed.
The basic sciences module, which has its own course load and will be essential for the final achievement of the Master's degree, despite the fact that some topics may have been studied in the undergraduate training, is essential as a complement to the information already seen, knowledge of the specificity that each sports population has, each sport in the type of injuries that tend to appear frequently. Likewise, in order to work on prevention, diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and physical-sports rehabilitation, we must know the performance environment of an athlete, how training is planned and what the training principles of each of the physical properties are based on. -sports that an athlete trains to achieve performance. - Module 2. Multidisciplinaries Sciences (10 ECTS)
“Multidisciplinaries Sciences” is the second module of the program, with a value of 4 ECTS. In this module the student is allowed to acquire a global vision in the field of sports, the athlete and the multidisciplinary work that is carried out to control the biopsychosocial factors that surround the health of the athlete, from the point of view of their nutrition, their psychology, the biomechanics that is applied to each sport, as well as the specific sports materials that are used in each sport, as well as the evaluation, diagnosis, decision making in emergency and urgent situations in sport.
The related sciences module, which has its own teaching load and which will be essential for the final achievement of the Master's Degree, complements the perspective that the sports physiotherapist must have on the athlete, to understand how other factors influence their health, the psychological aspect, the nutritional aspect and the use of sports equipment.
In this module you will learn to evaluate, diagnose and intervene in an emergency or urgent situation, as well as correctly develop the life support protocol that sometimes happens in sports.
This module will be developed in the first semester, through lectures, presenting in the classroom the concepts and procedures related to the subjects taught using the lesson method. Practical work will be carried out in theoretical classrooms. - Module 3. Prevention and Planning the Return to Play After a Sports Injury (12 ECTS)
The module of Prevention and Planning the Return to Play after a sport injury, seeks to enable the student to design a physiotherapy prevention plan based on scientific evidence and to be able to intervene in the areas of prevention, promotion and recovery of health, carry out clinical reasoning that leads to a physiotherapy diagnosis, clinical reasoning, propose improvement objectives, plan treatment strategies, propose a therapeutic intervention and establish a prognosis, through theoretical/practical knowledge already included in the study plans of the physiotherapy degree, although adapted to the sports environment. - Module 4. Diagnosis and Essentials Methods of Sports Physiotherapy (12 ECTS)
The module of Basic Sports Physiotherapy Techniques seeks to enable the student to design a physiotherapy intervention plan based on scientific evidence and to be able to intervene in the areas of prevention, promotion and recovery of health, carry out clinical reasoning that leads to a physiotherapy diagnosis, propose improvement objectives, plan treatment strategies, propose a therapeutic intervention and improve the skills on differetn thecnichs and methods of physiotherapy. - Module 5. Diagnosis and Methods of Sports Physiotherapy (12 ECTS)
The Advanced Techniques Sports Physiotherapy module seeks to train the student to plan treatment strategies, propose a therapeutic intervention. This is the brief description of the contents of the subjects taught in this module.

First semester – Foundations in athlete health and multidisciplinary assessment

Second semester – Prevention, rehabilitation, and applied physiotherapy
In the second semester, you will focus on advanced physiotherapy techniques, injury prevention, and planning the return to play. You will also develop research skills and complete your Final Master’s Project.
- Design evidence-based prevention and rehabilitation plans, and apply clinical reasoning to propose therapeutic interventions and prognosis.
- Master advanced sports physiotherapy techniques, including manual recovery, electrotherapy, bandaging, joint examination, and functional rehabilitation.
- Conduct applied research in sports physiotherapy and complete a professionally-oriented Final Master’s Thesis.

Admissions requirements
For access to the Accredited Private Master`s Degree in Exercise and Sports Physiotherapy online it is necessary to fulfill one of the following requirements:
- To be in possession of a University Degree. In the case of being a graduate from a university outside of Spain, it is not necessary to have had the degree officially recognised by the Spanish Education Ministry.
- To have accredited professional experience related to the programme of interest. This guarantees the achievement of the abilities specified in the Profile for prospective students section. - Higher Vocational Training Graduates who can accredit professional experience after completion of the internship.
