Inauguration of Universidad Europea de Andalucía. On Thursday, Mayor Francisco de la Torre inaugurated the institution's campus in Málaga. The event, which was also attended by the Secretary General for Universities of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Ramón Herrera de las Heras, together with the President and CEO of the University, Otilia de la Fuente, was attended by important figures from the business, academic and social worlds.
After the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony by the mayor, which marked the inauguration of the facilities, the academic ceremony began with the presentation of attributes to the new rector, Daniel Hormigo, who was accompanied at this solemn event by seven other rectors, two of them from institutions in Malaga.
In his inauguration speech, the rector stated that ‘today we are not only inaugurating a university, but also bringing to life a modern project, connected to the city and focused on its students, the true reason for our existence’.
He also highlighted the institution's commitment to ‘academic excellence, research, technology and educational innovation, areas in which Malaga must be a benchmark’.

For her part, the president and CEO of Universidad Europea, Otilia de la Fuente, expressed her gratitude for the support of both the mayor and the Regional Government, which has enabled Universidad Europea de Andalucía to ‘move from being a promise to becoming a reality’. De la Fuente pointed out that the institution brings to Malaga ‘cutting-edge teaching, useful research and connections with business and the city’.
The keynote lecture, ‘The Power of Collaboration,’ was given by Ezequiel Navarro, president of innova IRV. Afterwards, the secretary general of Universities, Ramón Herrera de las Heras, highlighted the ‘importance of public-private collaboration,’ emphasising the quality of Universidad Europea de Andalucía project.
The event was closed by the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, who stated that ‘the success of the university in Malaga is the success of Andalusia and Spain’. The mayor emphasised the importance of ‘not losing sight of competitiveness’.
27,000 m2 of state-of-the-art facilities
After the event, the more than 200 attendees were able to visit the facilities specially designed to implement the experiential learning academic model that has made Universidad Europea a benchmark in higher education in our country.
The campus, designed by Malaga architect José Seguí, combines technology and sustainability with state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories with advanced simulation environments. Here, more than 550 students are already experiencing the challenges and dynamics of their future profession in an immersive way.
