Dentistry Laboratory

A pre-clinical laboratory for comprehensive practical training in Dentistry. It recreates the professional environment with phantom heads, digital radiology, CAD/CAM and biomaterials.

Dentistry Laboratory - Universidad Europea Andalucía

Located on Floor -1, with a surface area of 617.80 m², this laboratory, the Dental Simulation Laboratory, is designed as a space for comprehensive pre-clinical practical training for Dentistry degree students.

This space consists of individual workstations with articulated mannequins, a radiology area and a biomaterials management area. It enables students to acquire skills and develop manual training in each of the curricular units that make up the field of Dentistry. The equipment allows the simulation of the different dental techniques and treatments that will be put into practice when observing and treating patients in clinical subjects.

The workstations closely resemble the professional reality due to the characteristics of the equipment used, the spaces and the ergonomic aspects. In addition to being a safe environment for students, who are directly and continuously supervised by lecturers in the area of study, it also makes a notable contribution to patient safety, as all techniques have been previously practised.

These facilities have simulators distributed across large workbenches that encourage collaborative work between students and teaching staff, reinforced by a robust audio and video system with projection areas and high-resolution televisions connected to the teaching station. The articulated phantom heads contain specific typodonts for paediatric, surgical and general adult practical work, ensuring students are exposed to the case mix required in pre-clinical practice.

For the space to function correctly, there are two areas next to the workstations:

  • Biomaterials area (preparation of models in alginate, plaster and polymers), with facilities enabling the correct drainage of water and sediment, as well as air extraction for odours and suspended solids arising from the materials and equipment in use;
  • Radiology area, with digital X-ray units.

The perimeter of the laboratory includes a storage area and safety systems for the activities carried out (eyewash stations, emergency shower, panic doors and fire extinguishers), as well as a machine room for compressors and the suction system, duly equipped and soundproofed in compliance with all legal requirements. All waste will be managed in accordance with current legislation using appropriate containers.

The equipment in this laboratory is as follows:

  • IT equipment enhanced by an integrated audio and video system for good viewing and interaction between users.
  • IT equipment coupled to a phosphor plate digitiser.
  • Workstations equipped with articulated simulators, turbine and micromotor adapters, solids suction, electric handpiece, work lamp and clinical stool.
  • Digital X-ray units for diagnostic imaging practicals in dentistry and endodontics.
  • Materials area equipped with light-curing cabinets, vacuum forming machine, plaster vibrators and trimmers, pneumatic polymer pots, orthodontic plate polishers, water decanters and compressed-air guns.
  • Storage area for: light-curing lamps, rotary endodontic motors and apex locators.
  • Intraoral scanner.
  • CAD/CAM milling machine.
