Centro Universitario Universidad Europea Asturias will launch its programme with degree courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology and Pharmacy, to which Nursing, Biomedicine and Physiotherapy will be added in the second year

On Monday, the Asturian Government gave the green light for Universidad Europea to establish a presence in Asturias through a centre affiliated with Universidad Europea de Madrid. The centre, which will be located in the La Pecuaria Science and Technology Park and will cover a total area of 10,000 m², will, once all the necessary approvals have been obtained, offer the most relevant undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of Health.
The campus, designed by the firm Magén Arquitectos and the local partner team Verónica Durán Sela Arquitectos, will feature a modular and flexible 8,000 m² building. It is a sustainable infrastructure, designed to adapt to the environmental conditions of the surroundings, reduce its energy footprint and achieve full integration with the landscape of the technology park.
Centro Universitario Universidad Europea Asturias will be developed in several phases, with a total investment of over 35 million euros, and will incorporate classrooms and teaching laboratories aligned with the institution’s theoretical-practical academic model. In addition, it will feature communal spaces such as a library, a cafeteria, administration and student services areas, as well as social and communal spaces designed to enrich the university experience and promote learning, even outside the classroom.
The most comprehensive range of health-related courses in Asturias
Once the necessary approvals have been obtained, the affiliated centre will commence operations in the 2027–2028 academic year, offering degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology and Pharmacy, thereby establishing the most comprehensive and ambitious range of health sciences courses in the entire Principality of Asturias. In its second academic year, this programme will be joined by degrees in Nursing, Biomedicine and Physiotherapy, consolidating a comprehensive and highly valuable educational project for the region.
The academic programme will also be complemented by specialist postgraduate programmes in the field of health, reinforcing an educational ecosystem geared towards excellence and innovation that responds to the real needs of the Asturian healthcare system.
In the words of Otilia de la Fuente, President and CEO of Universidad Europea, “we are very excited about Universidad Europea arrival in Gijón, because this project represents much more than the opening of a new campus: it offers the opportunity to continue transforming lives through a high-quality, innovative education that is deeply connected to social and professional realities. Asturias brings together talent, ambition and enormous potential for development, and we want to be part of that future by contributing our experience, our academic model and a clear commitment to service. We arrive with the desire to contribute, to put down roots in the region and to help train professionals equipped to lead with knowledge, humanity and the ability to make an impact in a field as essential as healthcare.”
For her part, the Mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón, has welcomed the arrival of Universidad Europea in the city, a project that will create more than 350 direct jobs. For the mayor, “the arrival of Universidad Europea marks a turning point for Gijón and demonstrates a growth that allows the city to aspire to anything. Adding a leading educational centre in its sector is great news economically and socially, but also a major boost for the scientific and business fabric of a Gijón that is growing through concrete achievements and in a manner consistent with its identity. At the same time, through Universidad Europea project and its future prospects, the expansion of the Science Park is establishing itself as a prime hub of innovation in northern Spain and reaffirms the City Council’s commitment to securing a city of opportunities.”
