On October 22, Universidad Europea students, teaching staff and alumni formed a great team of volunteers at the 10th Business Solidarity Day, organized by International Cooperation and Atresmedia. The Universidad Europea team members took part in refurbishing the Colegio Santiago Apóstol school in Valencia, and they shared experiences with the staff and residents at the Albergue Santa María de la Paz shelter in Madrid. A total of seven Spanish cities organized 98 activities with 7,000 volunteers for this charity event.
The team from Valencia painted and refurbished the classrooms to improve the educational experience of the children. After the activities, they spoke about the value of volunteering with volunteers from other participating businesses and institutions, as well as the organizers. “The school has a team that is committed to improving the educational conditions and habits of children at risk of social exclusion. We came to contribute to improving a school with an incredible architectural space”, said Mónica Monllor, Director of Student Services at the Universidad Europea de Valencia and team leader.
The team from Madrid spent the day with staff and residents from the Albergue Santa María de la Paz. The participants had the chance to share life experiences during the talks organized, and discovered the diversity of profiles and experiences at the institution. The team noted the desire to improve of each of the residents and understood that “we are all people and that’s how we should treat each other, because nobody is safe from finding themselves in an extreme situation, at any time”, said a student from the la Universidad Europea de Madrid.
