A total of three professors from the School of Sports and Exercise Sciences at the Universidad Europea took part in the 2nd Edition of the ‘Almería Western Raid’, a competition that combines sport and endurance and was held on October 1 and 2 in the province of Almería. Abraham, a CAFYD professor, was the Spanish champion of the Adventure Raid after a 28 hour non-stop race of 200 kilometers.
The 2nd edition of this demanding multidisciplinary team competition featured over 150 athletes from Galicia, Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia and Andalusia. The participants took part in various categories including swimming, mountain biking, running, land and underground orienteering, inline skating, kayaking, archery, rock climbing and freediving.
Abraham took part in the elite category of the race, which was raised to the Spanish Championship category for the first time. In this race, the athletes completed a single stage of around 200 kilometers in teams of three. Professors Jesús Bermejo and Carol took part in the adventure and beginner’s pen categories with a team that took a well-merited fourth place. The Raid is a race that, as well as requiring excellent physical shape, has a significant psychological and strategic factor.
