Universidad Europea hosts the first campus of the Royal Spanish Federation of Gymnastics

12 aug 2016

The Royal Spanish Federation of Gymnastics chose the Universidad Europea Villaviciosa de Odón Campus to host its summer rhythmic gymnastics camp, “Gymnastic Camp”, aimed at children aged 7 years old and older who want to continue their sports training over summer. With two types of camp -external for gymnasts from Madrid and internal for those from other parts of the country who need a place to stay- and three different levels, the camp was held from July 10-16.

A team of top-level coaches were on hand for the camp activities. They included Lidia Redondo, member of the Spanish national team since 2004; Ana María Pelaz, Olympic gymnast at Beijing 2008 and coach of the national junior team since 2014; and Bet Salom, Olympic gymnast at Beijing 2008 and member of the national team from 2005 to 2011.

According to the dean of the Universidad Europea School of Sports and Exercise Sciences, Francisco López Varas, “for the Universidad Europea School of Sports and Exercise Sciences it is a privilege to host the first ‘Gymnastics Camp’ at our facilities”. “This campus is a great initiative that will allow children to enjoy themselves while learning the sport they love most at top-rate facilities. The school has always been concerned with promoting grassroots sport, encouraging these types of activities as much as possible”, he added.

Meanwhile Jesús Carballo, chairman of the Royal Spanish Federation of Gymnastics stated that the institution he heads is “pleased to be able to set up its own campus. We believe in the importance of encouraging people to do this sport and being able to learn from the best. Our goal is to offer all those interested a top-quality campus and the best facilities, such as those of the Universidad Europea de Madrid, in an unbeatable setting. We are also grateful for the collaboration of the Campus and Sports Events in launching this project”.
