Universidad Europea holds the 3rd Symposium on Training for Extreme Environments

15 jun 2016

The School of School of Sports and Exercise Sciences of Universidad Europea, in collaboration with the School of Biomedical and Health Sciences and the School of Doctoral Studies and Research of Universidad Europea de Madrid, together with the Ministry of Defense, held its 3rd Symposium on Training for Extreme Environments the first weekend in June during Armed Forces Week. The event was a multidisciplinary forum for reflection that used scientific knowledge to help develop this type of training.

The first day of the symposium included a Health Care Simulation for Incidents with an Active Shooter, which began with an opening speech on Health Care in Special Operations given by Alberto Hernández Abadía (Chief of Defense) and also included an institutional round table.

In the afternoon session, during the speech from Chief Nurse Valentín González Alonso, from the Central Defense Academy (Military School of Health), the simulation began after three blanks were heard fired into the air. At that moment, several of the “plants” in the audience fell to the ground as if they had sustained injuries from the gunfire.

A few minutes later, as part of the simulation, a team from the Special Operations Group of the Directorate General of National Police entered and, after neutralizing the shooter, proceeded to perform an initial assessment and tactical first aid on the victims. Subsequently, a SAMUR team quickly extracted the victims.
