In early July, the School of Sports and Exercise Sciences (CAFyD) gathered together the university community, teaching staff and students of the Universidad Europa to present the book ‘20 Years on the Path to Excellence’. The text highlights the journey of the School, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, especially recalling the Dean who founded it, Juan Mayorga.
From the beginning, Juan Mayorga, decorated with the gold medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit, aspired to channel his passion for sports and the values of the Universidad Europea to a multidisciplinary setting with an innovative School, focused on sports management and exercise as a way to improve health in every part of society. At present, CAFyD has grown to become one of the best schools in Spain, able to open doors for its Alumni in new professions with a high-quality academic education.
The book presentation was attended by Itziar Pascual and Javier de la Rubia, professors at CAFyD; Francisco López Varas, the current Dean of the School; and Miguel Carmelo, President of the Universidad Europea and CEO of Laureate International Universities in Europe. As Carmelo emphasized, “clearly the School we had at the beginning and later was the project or dream of our Dean Juan Mayorga.” Regarding the progress of the institution, “today we can say that CAFYD is one of the best schools in the country,” Carmelo said.
