The Universidad Europea de Canarias recently collaborated with Buenavista del Norte Town Council in a conference on Rural Tourism and Accessibility. The opening event was attended by rector Cristiana Oliveira.
The academic coordinator for the conference was our faculty member Elena Pérez. The professor and expert in tourism also helped moderate and organize some of the actions planned during this event.
José Leoncio González, coordinator of the Social Sciences degree program, also participated with a lecture on sports tourism and how society today views all these travelers with different needs to access these products.
He asked himself whether sports tourism is accessible or if it only targets super men and women who can run marathons and swim for miles and miles in rough seas.
Our students Lua Delgado López and Paula Méndez Moreno, who are studying the Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Communication, also took part in a talk called “Sustainable tourism: people come first”. The students discussed the advantages of advertising as a tool not just to sell products but also to raise awareness on various issues. These two young students focused on this second issue, using sustainable rural tourism as an example.
