On December 2 at Universidad Europea, the Fundación Renal Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo and the Universidad Europea presented the first Kidney Research Chair in Spain, on the occasion of the 28th Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo Awards for Nephrology Research.
It was presented by the Director General of the Fundación Renal, Dr. Blanca Miranda, and the President of the Universidad Europea, Miguel Carmelo. The Kidney Research Chair professorship will deal with aspects relating to prevention, slowing the progress of the disease, studies of the economics of healthcare, information techniques applied to treatment units, and the psychological and social effects associated with kidney disease.
The agreement between the Universidad Europea and the Fundación Renal to create the Chair is the latest step in the last 30 years of steady progress in nephrology research. Queen Sofía chaired the meeting of the Fundación Renal Board of Trustees and presented a total of 26 awards for work in three classes of research: basic, clinical and nephrology nursing.
