The School of Sports and Exercise Sciences looks at the physical response of soldiers during military training

13 jul 2016

Following the “1st Conference on Intermittent High-intensity Training. Civil-Military Application”, professor Vicente Clemente from the School of Sports and Exercise Sciences at Universidad Europea has worked together with the professors of the Central School of Physical Education of Toledo on intermittent high-intensity training in the military field.

They monitored the psychophysiological, physical and mechanical response of professional soldiers during an itinerary conducted at the combat maneuver field of the Infantry Academy of Toledo. During this operation, the soldiers carried excess load to simulate their operational equipment and it was conducted in conditions of high heat and humidity, simulating current areas of operation (up to 52ºC).

As a secondary objective, they also assessed the dehydration of the soldiers and the effect of fatigue on technical actions such as throwing grenades and rifle shooting accuracy. This operation opens the door to applying the latest civil training methods to military units; a novel operation and a milestone in this field.
