Companies and NGOs discuss strategies to contribute to achieving the SDGs at the Universidad Europea

31 may 2017

On May 17, the Universidad Europea hosted a seminar to raise awareness among students on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations for 2030. With this purpose in mind, a fair was organized with 17 stands manned by over 30 companies and NGOs, and opened by the Vice-President of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF, Juan José Almagro, who spoke of co-responsibility as the driving force behind Social Responsibility.

During his speech, and prior to chatting with young representatives from AIESEC and UNSA Spain, Mr. Almagro stressed to the public that “we are moving towards a world of co-responsibility” in which “solidary leaders must prevail over solitary people”. He also highlighted multiculturalism as a key factor for achieving a better world that defeats the inequality “in our guts and that corrupts democracy”.

After the inaugural speech Almudena Rodríguez Tarodo, a professor at the School of Social Sciences and Communication, moderated a round table that focused on the different strategies implemented by companies to contribute to achieving the SDGs. Other participants in the round table included Almudena Rodríguez Beloso, CSR and Environment Director at Accenture; Beatriz Rubio, Sustainability Manager at Deloitte; Rodrigo de Salas, Corporate Communication and CSR Director at Leroy Merlin; and Guillermo Arias, Senior Account Director at LinkedIn.
