Augusto López-Claros analyzes the indicators included in the Universidad Europea “Doing Business” report

14 nov 2016

The director of the Global Indicators Group, the World Bank department responsible for preparing the “Doing Business” report, Augusto López-Claros, offered Universidad Europea students the master class entitled “Key factors for private sector development. An international perspective on competitiveness”.

During the session, held on November 11 at the Villaviciosa de Odón Campus, López-Claros addressed the indicators measured in the “Doing Business” report. He also stressed this report’s key role in promoting reforms in countries.

Thus, in his opinion, one of the reasons these indicators have been successful and promoted reforms is that they offer information “in an accessible and granular way”. “The granularity, specificity of the data and the ability to make international comparisons are the main characteristics of the report and the reason for its success”, he explained.

As he described, the report offers metrics based on best practices and no country has the best rating in all indicators, but it does allow us to determine how far each country is from the best practices in each indicator. It is precisely thanks to the international comparative data that “the report has become a catalyst for reforms”, he said.
