Alejandro Beautell, architect and professor at the Universidad Europea de Canarias School of Architecture, received a Special Mention at the International Prize for Sacred Architecture, awarded in Pavia, Italy by the Frate Sole Foundation, for his work on the chapel of San Juan Bautista, on the island of El Hierro.
In this sixth edition, the panel chose five finalist architects among renowned professionals from all over the world, granting three awards and two special mentions.
During his speech at the Palazzo Broletto, Beautell stood up for “architecture without fireworks, that serves society. The chapel of San Juan Bautista on El Hierro cries out against the excesses of the past and proves that another type of religious art is possible”, he said during his speech.
