Alberto Gonzáles (ISTAC) gives a masterclass about the “Data revolution”

12 may 2016

On Friday, April 29, the Head of Economic Statistics at the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC) Alberto González Yanes gave a masterclass at Universidad Europea de Canarias to students from the Statistics course taught by Diana Sosa. The students who attended the talk were the second-year DICRE and Marketing group and the first-year Dintentur group. The lecture-based class was called "The 21st century: The century of the data revolution," and in it González Yanes spoke about the latest progress and studies related to statistics.

Alberto González Yanes has a degree in mathematics from Universidad de La Laguna. He has been Head of the Economic Statistics Service since 2006, where he has coordinated its activity: economic statistics, environmental statistics, labor statistics and science and technology statistics. As such he has contributed to R&D projects associated with estimations in small areas of the Canary Islands, advanced sampling methods, and methodologies for making statistical use of administrative records.

He is head of the “Statistics Dissemination Policy” and “Statistical Metadata System” projects included in the ISTAC 2010-2015 Strategic Plan, including numerous actions on opening up statistical data.

González is Coordinator of the European METAMAC project, carried out by the Statistical Offices of European Macaronesia, for developing an integrated system of statistical metadata and implement the SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange) standard.
