18 jun 2021

The  Musculoskeletal Pain and Motor Research Group from the Universidad Europea de Madrid and  the Universidad Europea de Canarias has presented two scientific projects at the world conference of the International Association of Study of Pain  2021, which was held remotely for the first time.

The first study is the result of the research work done by the Undergraduate Professors of Physical Therapy from the Universidad Europea (Madrid and the Canary Islands) and the Professors from the Master's Degree in Manual Orthopedic Physical Therapy (Madrid and the Canary Islands), Raquel Díaz Meco, José Luis Alonso-Pérez, Alberto Muñoz, Carlos Barragán, Eleuterio Sánchez-Romero, and Sebastián Martín, together with researchers David García Jiménez from CEU San Pablo and Jorge Hugo Villafañe from  Fundación Don Carlo Gnocchi in Milan.

The thesis Ultrasound-guided invasive physical therapy treatment with percutaneous electrolysis in patellar tendinopathy. A case series study analyzes the clinical efficacy of a minimally invasive approach through percutaneous electrolysis in a tendinopathy of the patellar tendon.

The second project presented under the title Musculoskeletal pain related to COVID-19 survivors: a short review is a synthesis study that aims to analyze the musculoskeletal symptoms in patients that survive the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.

The study is the result of an international collaboration between Elisa Fiore and Diego Cotella from the Università Degli Studi Del Piemonte Orientale de Novara; Professor Camilo Corbellini from the LUNEX International University of Health, Exercise and Sports in Luxemburg; Lara Acucella and Jorge H. Villafañe from the Fundación Don Carlo Gnocchi in Milan and Professors Universidad Europea Professors Sebastián Martín and Eleuterio Sánchez Romero.

“The physical therapy revolution that began a few years ago with evidence-based studies means that today we can attend the most representative international conferences, such as those organized by the International Association for the Study of Pain,” said José Luis Alonso-Pérez.
